Lubao became a visita of tondo in 1572. Construction of the present church is said to have started in the 16th century while 18th century documents state that the Lubao church was constructed with masonry stone and brick. Its famous main retablo depicts different scenes from the life of Saint Augustine. it has a five-storey belltower and a facade that has neoclassical features.
