The school was formed by the merger in 1975 of Aldridge Grammar School and Tynings Lane Secondary Modern School, which were co-located on the same campus. [1]
Aldridge Grammar School opened in September 1959 and was an 11-18 selective higher education school for the then urban district of Aldridge Brownhills (which was absorbed into Walsall in 1974). However, it became a 13-18 school in September 1972 on the introduction of three-tier education in Aldridge Brownhills. [1]
Aldridge School adopted its current name when the merger took place in September 1975. It reverted to an 11-18 school in September 1986, when three-tier education in the Aldridge Brownhills area was abolished after 14 years. [1]
In September 2003, Aldridge School became a Science College. Since then, it has invested heavily in science equipment for each subject, as well as a Biology block. The school boasts 15 laboratories with prep rooms and technical support, available for all three of the sciences. [1]
