Forty years ago, the Barangay Council of Trento, headed by the late Ignacio Prochina, the Barangay Captain conceived the idea of opening a Barangay high school. A Barangay resolution requesting for the opening of high school was then passed to the division office which was yet in Butuan City. At that time, Agusan was not yet divided into Agusan del Norte and Agusan del Sur. When the request was granted, Trento Barangay High School was opened on July 16, 1970, and then enrollment began. ^[1]

There was only one full-time teacher appointed. She was Miss Nena A Lor, Mrs. Tuazon. Then she was followed by Mr. Necitas V. Logroño, and Mrs. Josefina A. Lumanta. This was in 1970–1971. The enrollees were only 204. There was one section from the first year and another section from the second year. ^[1]

In the following year, came Miss Efigenia E. Calvez, Miss Berlin S. Mipaña, now Mrs. Tecson, Mr Gregorio A. Rances, and Miss Nelita D. Julao, now Mrs. Improso. ^[1]

Two years later, they had their first graduation. Due to the increase of enrolment, the school needed a head teacher. The late Mr. Jose R. Oasan, who acted as the assistant principal, designated Miss Nena A. Lor as the teacher-in-charge. That was in 1973. In 1975, she was promoted to head teacher. ^[1]

After four years, the students and the teachers were made to vacate the building they borrowed from Trento Central Elementary School. They transferred to an unfinished building constructed out of the converted barrio market building. Such building was having unfinished roofing with its sand and gravel flooring. ^[1]

They stayed there for a quite number of years. With the assistance extended by both the Barangay and local officials, the school had acquired physical facilities. It is now the second year building. In the year 1976–1977, the old municipal building was also turned-over to the school as a classroom building. ^[1]

The Parents Teacher Association also has become part and parcel in the operation of the school. A number of classroom buildings were constructed by the PTA. It had also become the study partner of the administration in the realization of its mission, vision and goals. The school has continued to grow and later name as Trento Community High School , Trento Municipal High School and then Trento National High School. ^[1]

At present, there are 2,556 students enrolled for the school year 2006–2007. There are 70 teachers headed by the full fledged Secondary School Principal Mr. Leopoldo M. Pulido, P-III. In terms of buildings, Trento National High school has 20 buildings with 44 classrooms. ^[1]

Today, Trento National High School stands as the 3rd biggest in population among secondary schools in the Division of Agusan del Sur. And as of now, Trento National High School is soaring up high in co-curricular and extra curricular in Science, Mathematics, Journalism, TLE, English, Filipino and even the Supreme Student Government affairs. ^[1]
