Zeta Beta Rho Honor Fraternity
A scholar’s fraternity emphasizing academic excellence and adhering to the motto: HONOR, SERVICE, CONSERVATION.
History
On September 25, 1949, the Lumberjacks Fraternity was organized with 16 members. Mario A. Eusebio, was elected President and therefore emerged as the first head of the UPCF’s scholar’s fraternity. Due to a university ruling requiring fraternities to bear Greek-lettered names, the name of the fraternity was changed to Zeta Beta Rho Honor Fraternity on October 25, 1949.
As a student organization, the UP Zeta Beta Rho Honor Fraternity has been awarded the Most Outstanding Fraternity for three consecutive school years (1992-1995) by the UPLB Office of Student Affairs-Student Organizations and Activities Division. For this rare feat, the UPLB awarded the UP ZBRHF the “Hall of Honor” and “Hall of Fame” honors on August 12, 1998, respectively, “in recognition of it’s valuable achievements in service to the studentry, the University, and the community in general.”
On the other hand, July 22, 1969 marked a milestone in the College of Forestry and Natural Resources. On this day, an organization was conceived from among the ranks of these future lady foresters and outstanding scholars in the college. The newly founded sorority chose for its name MUSSAENDA, a genus of variegated flowering plant whose common names honor the wives of the former Presidents of the Philippines, and outstanding ladies of that time (Doña Aurora, Doña Luz, Doña Trining and others)
As a campus organization, the MHS has been awarded for two consecutive school years (1994-1996) the “Most Outstanding Sorority” by UPLB’s Office of Student Affairs-Student Organizations and Activities Division for its valuable achievements in the service to the studentry, the community and the community in general.
The fraternity and sorority has expanded its membership through the organization of five chapters in the Gregorio Araneta University Foundation(GAUF), now De La Salle-Araneta University (DLSAU), in Caloocan City, Metro Manila; Central Mindanao University (CMU) in Musuan, Bukidnon; Leyte State University(formerly VisCA) in baybay Leyte; Nueva Vizcaya State University in Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya ; and Western Mindanao State University in Zamboanga City.
One of the major projects of the Mussaenda Honor Sorority and Zeta Beta Rho Honor Fraternity, its fraternity brothers, is the National Forestry Olympiad. It is biennial activity which aims to foster link among the forestry schools in the country.
