Kesari Higher Secondary School
History
Kesari Higher Secondary School (KHSS) was Kesari High School (KHS) till 1979 when the "plus two' system was introduced in Tamil nadu and the highr secondary classes were added. Then the school was headed by Headmistress Mrs Y. Kameswari who had a good grip over the administration and maintained a good level of discipline.
This school along with its branch at T Nagar were known for education in Telugu (as medium of instruction). I had noticed children coming from neighboring districts of Andhra Pradesh (Nellore is a notable example) getting admitted into this school. There were a number of Telugu speaking (speaking good Telugu) teachers also then.
In 1978 there were two buildings; the old mansion like building and the new three storeyed RCC structure that is L shaped. What was lacking then (and I guess now also) is a playgound because the school is located amidst houses in a residential locality. Even while we played street cricket in the tiny playgound, the children used to be admonished by the residents of the houses around whenever the ball travels to their premises!
Some of the teachers I remember are Mr C Venkatachalam (English) Mr Y Phaneendrudu (Science) Mr Veeraraghavachari (Telugu) Mr Nageswara Rao (Biology).
Some of the friends I remember are B Madhusudan, Pangam Srinivas, Polepalli Srinivas, A V Mukund (deceased), Ganesh (ICICI Prudential), Lalitha, Suganthy, Kalpakam (Karpagam?) Padmini etc. My name is Sirish (nsirish@yahoo.com)
