- Original name of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Ibrahim / Ibrahim Secondary School is Government English School established in 1919. It was originally situated at the site where the Pejabat Telekom Sungai Petani is now. It is later relocated to the current site and was then renamed as Sultan Hamid School. [1]
- As one of the premier school in the town Sungai Petani, the school has achieved many honorable results in either academic or co-curricular activities. From year 2001 to 2006, the school has produced many top-scorers in PMR, SPM and STPM. This school is also one of the candidates for becoming the newly introduced cluster school.[1]
- The school is always known for its drama, choir, tennis, debate, squash and so on. In 2007, the debate team succeeded to go into the national level in Sarawak. The drama team also got to national level and won a fourth place and won best script award.[1]
- SMK Ibrahim cricket team is the strongest squad in the northern region. They won gold almost in every match in every year.[1]
