Hughes Electronics expanded in 1987 with the purchase of M/A-COM Telecommunications, Inc., now known as Hughes Network Systems (HNS). [1]

SkyTerra Communications, Inc. completed its purchase of 100% controlling interest in HNS from the The DirecTV Group (formerly Hughes Electronics) in January 2006 and completed an IPO of Hughes Communications in March 2006. [1]

HNS is now 100% owned by Hughes Communications, Inc. Hughes Communications is a publicly traded company under the stock symbol of HUGH on NASDAQ since September 2006. [1]
