The University College Of Engineering(now rechristened "The Orissa Institute of Technology"), Burla, is an institute of engineering in eastern India. Established in 1956, it is the first Engineering college in Orissa. The college started with only three departments (Mechanical, Electrical and Civil). At that time the current building was not finished so the college started in a building now known as "Bharati Club" and students use to live in quarters of Hirakud Dam project. This college was known for its high quality teaching and good infrastructure. The mechanical engineering department houses one of the finest workshop in India. At one point of time the electrical engineering department of this institute was ranked 3rd in nationwide ranking. ^[1]

It is celebrating its Golden Jubilee in 2006. Its one of the oldest engineering colleges in India. UCE has many branches, offering degree and Ph.D programs for the last 50 years. ^[1]
