MIT came up on September 25, 1954 with one discipline i.e. Civil engineering. It was inaugurated by Mr.C.P.N.Singh, Governor of then East Punjab (now Punjab, Haryana and parts of Himachal Pradesh).The first Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru laid down the foundation of main building on April 21, 1956. Mechanical engineering and Electrical engineering disciplines were added in 1960. Later on Pharmacy was added in 1978, Leather Technology in 1986, Information Technology and Electronics and Communication Engineering were started in 2001. ^[1]
