Founded in 1900 by the name of Odessa State Medical University. ^[1]

Government university. ^[1]

Upgraded and change to Odessa National Medical University in August 2010, and thanks to the rector of the university. Because he is one of the closest friends of new elected Ukrainian President Yanukovich and the rector helped him a lot during his recent election campaign, so Yanukovich promised to grant the status of 'National' to the university. Although the university have a lot of old professor and did meet the requirement of status upgradation. ^[1]
