- Overview
- Location. A rainbow flag signifies the Cabana at Waikiki, a gay-owned and gay-operated tropical resort that is dedicated to male travelers. This secluded, Hawaiian retreat rests just two blocks from the regularly scheduled celebrations offered at Queen's Surf Beach. A one-block stroll leads vacationers to beautiful Kapiolani Park, and the cosmopolitan excitements of downtown Honolulu beckon only five miles from this island hideaway.
- Hotel Features. The resort was renovated in 1999 and features Egyptian-style lobby frescoes. Complimentary resort amenities include continental breakfasts and thrice-weekly cocktail get-togethers. Complimentary business services include wireless Internet access (days only) and use of a computer located on the tropical veranda. A clothing-optional spa tub accommodates eight people and guests receive discounted passes to a local fitness center. Laundry facilities are available on site and an honor- system desk provides beach equipment rentals. The resort's welcome package offers specific activity suggestions for gay travelers, but quiet evenings may be enjoyed watching a movie selected at the video library.
- Guestrooms. Cabana at Waikiki guestrooms are located on three floors that are accessed only by stairway. All 15 suites are nonsmoking, and bedrooms afford privacy by securing white-louvered doors. Living rooms feature Asian day beds and entertainment centers contain televisions, CD players and VCRs. Island-style décor includes teak desks and bamboo, glass-topped coffee tables. Kitchenettes feature toasters, blenders, coffeemakers, microwave ovens, compact refrigerators and dishware.
- Expert Tip. On Saturdays and Sundays, just two blocks away at Kuhio Beach, visitors celebrate Sunset on the Beach. Guests sample island cuisine and entertainment includes live music and open-air movies.
