Bishop Ireton High School is a Roman Catholic High School located in Alexandria, Virginia. The school was founded in 1964 and at the time, admitted only male students. Bishop Ireton, more commonly known as "BI", was established by the Oblates of St. Francis DeSales, an order of Catholic priests. In 1990 the school merged with sister school St. Mary's Academy, and began taking female students and has since been a coeducational school. Bishop Ireton is known for its focus on the liberal arts. Students are strongly encouraged to participate in a wide range of activities including but not limited to athletics, drama, and band. Bishop Ireton is controlled by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Arlington. ^[1]
