Indian School, Muscat is an International school in Muscat, Oman. It was founded in 1975 as the Indian Central School with 135 students. Since then, the school has seen exceptional growth, both in terms of enrollment and size. As of 2007, the school boasts an enrollment of over 6,500 students and claims to be the largest co-educational Institution in the Gulf. The school is located in the Darsait area of the city of Muscat. The school's students have an excellent reputation for both academic and extra-curricular achievement. [1]

The school is sponsored by the Indian Embassy and is supervised by the host country's Department of Private Education. It is affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, India. [1]

The current Principal of the school is Ainsley L. Edgar. In 2003, Ainsley L. Edgar received the prestigious "Best Teacher Award" from the President of India. Prior to joining Indian School, Muscat, Ainsley Edgar was the Principal of Ideal Indian School, Doha, Qatar. He has also served as the Secretary and Chairman of the Council of C.B.S.E. affiliated Schools in the Gulf. [1]

The school is a member of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme. This scheme was launched officially on 18th November 1992 with 23 girls and 20 boys from the school. The school currently has over 300 award entrants, who take part in a variety of confidence, character and team building activities including Social/Community Service and group Expeditions. [1]

The school actively tries to bridge the gap between its students and the administration through a Student Government System, which consists of a Student Council and Prefects. Prefects and the members of the Student Council are generally elected by the students. [1]
