Glenelg High School is located in the Western portion of Howard County, Maryland. The second school in Howard County, after Howard High School, Glenelg opened its doors in 1958. The original county championship trophy was called the "Elgard," a combination of the names of both county schools. [1]

The building itself has gone through many changes over the years to cope with the growing population of the Western part of Howard County, including the addition of seven portable classrooms, which have since become permanent, a new drama/music wing, and most recently construction on a new science wing and addition to the cafeteria have been started. The school has 17,349 square feet (1,611.8 m²) of indoor space. [1]

The school is located just west of Maryland Route 32, south of Interstate 70, and east of Maryland Route 97. [1]
