The high school's colors are blue and white (more specifically: navy and silver). The team name is the Middies and the symbol is the anchor. These are references to midshipmen, as historically, the town was a place where U.S. Navy uniforms were created.

Dracut High School is well known in the Merrimack Valley for their marching band and colorguard. In 2004 they had over 200 members.

In 2007, Dracut High School's production of 'Fiddler on the Roof' was nominated for 11 Spotlight Awards. The production won for Best Musical and Best Lead Actor (Christian Hoots).[1]

In 2008 the school's band, color guard, indoor guard, orchestra and show choir attended Festival Disney in Orlando Florida. The band/color guard received and 'excellent' rating. The indoor guard, 'excellent' and 'best in class'. The orchestra also received an excellent and one of their soloists was honored with an outstanding soloist award. The show choir also earned themselves an 'excellent' in show choir and mixed choir. The music department performed it's rendition of Victor Hugo's Les Misérables. They are waiting and hope to participate in the Spotlight Awards again this year. The Middies' Archrivals are the Methuen Rangers. D.H.S. has been the first of all schools in Massachusetts to ban Ipods and other electronic devices during all school hours. Being the first, they set the precedent and 14 other schools have followed including well known schools such as: Acton-Boxboro, Cohasset, Gloucester, and Durfee.
