The College was founded in 1949 as an affiliated college of the then University of Travancore, later on under the Kerala University. <ref name="wikipedia"/>

Acclaimed as a leading Centre of Excellence in Higher Education, Mar Ivanios College offers 10 Degree courses and 7 Post Graduate Courses. The college offers Degree courses in Economics, English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Commerce and Postgraduate Courses in English, Commerce, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Zoology. The Departments of Zoology, Chemistry and Physics are recognized research centres. It also offers place and facility for an IGNOU centre and an IDE centre.
