Florida Sports Hall of Fame (FSHOF) is an association dedicated to honoring athletes with outstanding achievement in sports in Florida. It has expanded its goals to include encouraging physical fitness among Florida's citizens through the example of its honorees.The FSHOF was founded by the Florida Sports Writers Association and the Florida Sportscasters Association in 1958.ref name=BJ The FSHOF eventually settled in Lake City, Florida before running into financial difficulties in the early 2000s. With Florida governor Jeb Bush vetoing expected state funding, the FSOH accumulated $90,000 in debt.ref name=BJ/ In 2002, it left its home, operating without a base from which to display its collection of sports memorabilia for several years thereafter.ref name=BJ/ The FSHOF is expected to take residence in the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex, which began construction in Auburndale, Florida in August, 2008. Previously, the FSHOF had considered building a location in St. Petersburg.^[1]
