The beginnings of the college can be traced back to 1969, when Valliammai Society started a primary school called Florence Nightingale School (now the SRM Nightingale School). Later in 1984, Valliammai Polytechnic was set up. It was only in 1985 that SRM Engineering College was established. The SRM Group has investments in SRM Hospital, Geetha Constructions, Royal Southern Hotels, SRM Printers, SRM Benefit Fund Ltd., SRM Systems and Software, SRM Easwari Travels and Tours India(P) Ltd., Blossom Infotech. ^[1]
