Daewon Foreign Language High School, located in Seoul, is a prestigious high school in South Korea. The private, coeducational, college preparatory school was founded in 1983 with the stated goal of nurturing future global leaders. Daewon is the oldest and largest of the 31 foreign language high schools in Korea. All Daewon students choose one language among Chinese, French, Japanese, Spanish, or German to study during their three years at Daewon. Korean, English, and basic Japanese are mandatory subjects, regardless of which focus language students choose when entering the school. [1]

While the school was originally founded to focus on foreign language education, it has over time come to serve more as a preparatory school for selective Korean and US universities. The school's primary language of instruction is Korean. [1]

Like most schools in Korea, Daewon starts its school year in March, starts its second semester in September, and ends the school year in February. [1]
