Tangub City

  • Tangub City, known as the “Christmas Symbols Capital of the Philippines” is located in the southern part of Misamis Occidental, bounded by the municipality of Bonifacio in the south and Ozamiz City in the north.
  • Its name is derived from a Subanon term, “tangkob” which means a basket made of the tree bark used for storing rice. The Subanon tribe is the first inhabitant of the place.
  • It became a city on June 17. 1967 and was envisioned to become the agri-business and learning center of Panguil Bay Sub-Region. It is composed of 55 barangays; has the total land area of 16,572 hectares and a population of 52,697 (2009); Adjudged as the Cleanest City in the Philippines (1969) and Best in Urban Planning (1970).

  • Hoyohoy Highland Park at Brgy. Hoyohoy, Tangub City; found at the foot of Mt. Malindang. One can have a great view of Panguil Bay, the cities of Ozamiz and Tangub and the neighboring places of Zamboanga del Sur, Lanao del Norte and Iligan City.
  • Technology and Livelihood Development Center (TLDC) Maloro, Tangub City; a venue for business and livelihood development and enhancement trainings. It offers techno-library, business technology training, video presentation of livelihood courses and technology information. Tel. #088-354-1598
  • Sinanduloy Cultural Troupe an award winning cultural group managed by the local government of Tangub.
  • Handurawan. Tangub City’s museum, where the rich cultural heritage in the form of artifacts, relics or writing or the work of arts are preserved.
  • Tangub City Sports Complex, Maloro, Tangub City; a venue for local, provincial and regional sports events.
  • Tangub City Activity Center, Barangay 1, Tangub City; a newly constructed building located beside the City Hall of Tangub City which serves as venue for outdoor functions.
  • Factory Outlet, Santa Maria, Tangub City; a showroom for all Tangub City products.


Events

  • Charter Anniversary and Inter-Collegiate Games - a twin event held annually in the celebration of the city’s charter day every last week of February.
  • Dalit Festival. Every 29th day of September during the feast of St. Michael, the city’s patron saint. “Dalit” which means offering”, is a festival that showcases the different ethnic and non-ethnic dances with special steps on subanen basic dance steps.
  • Christmas Symbols Festival - one of a kind showcase on grandiose Christmas Symbols, displayed at the city plaza from November to January. An exhibit of Tangubanons ingenuity and creativity
