  • Overview
    • Location. The Eliza Thompson House is located in historic downtown Savannah, one-half mile from the Savannah Civic Center Theater and the Savannah History Museum. Less than two miles from the inn is the Telfair Museum of Arts and the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist at Lafayette Square. Shopping and dining venues at Riverfront Plaza are less than two miles from the inn.
    • Features. Built in 1847, the Eliza Thompson House is located on Jones Street, situated in an attractive neighborhood with tree-lined, cobblestone streets and sidewalks. In 1995, this landmark Greek Revival-style structure underwent an extensive transformation that restored its historic design and introduced European antique furnishings to its interiors. Outdoors, the centerpiece of the inn is a brick-paved garden courtyard, featuring a koi pond and fountain with tall aquatic plants. Eliza Thompson's hospitality continues today with complimentary continental breakfasts, afternoon receptions offering appetizers and wine, and evening servings of dessert and coffee. Concierge services are available.
    • Guestrooms. Two structures house individually decorated guestrooms. Accommodations inside the Main House feature 12-foot ceilings, fireplaces and hardwood floors with oriental rugs. Furnishings include four-poster rice beds, antique sofas, armoires and dressing tables. Carriage House guestrooms feature nine-foot ceilings, antique furnishings and French doors opening onto the garden courtyard. All accommodations provide private bathrooms equipped with bathrobes. Select guestrooms are equipped with flat-screen televisions and CD players. Complimentary wireless Internet access is available.
    • Expert Tip. The Eliza Thompson House was built by Joseph Thompson, a successful cotton merchant and financier. A portrait of Thompson hangs in one of the inn's guestrooms. Widowed in 1855, Eliza Thompson chose to manage her husband's investments herself and maintained an active social life by frequently entertaining guests in her home and courtyard. The house remained in the Thompson family until the early 1920s and operated as an inn since 1978.
