I am your Alma Mater! The nurturing spirit that helped make you what you are today. I started life when the First School Board of Turtle Creek was organized on September 1, 1892 but I was not yet fully embodied. In the year 1898, after previously being instrumental in having a special law passed in the State Legislature, which authorized separate districts to establish and maintain joint high schools, the School Boards of the Boroughs of Wilmerding, Turtle Creek and East Pittsburgh incorporated my spirit and named me Union High School. My spirit soared in October of 1898 with the enrollment of the first thirty-three of my sons and daughters.

My first offspring left my embrace as the graduating Class of 1901, they were ready to meet the world and I was as proud as any mother could be of her children. My spirit continued to grow as I made you ready for the world with an academic and commercial curriculum second to none. My spirit wings spread as I encompassed all that had thirst for knowledge from the districts of Wilmerding, Turtle Creek, East Pittsburgh, Wall, Patton, Wilkins, Braddock, Penn, Plum, North Versailles, Stafford, Chalfont, Franklin, Westmoreland, and Export Boroughs.

I watched lovingly as workers on two shifts labored tirelessly, bringing brick and mortar together to house my growing spirit. By 1918 my spirit was fully embodied within the halls of Turtle Creek High School and I watched silently and proudly as you became the future of this great nation. I watched through trouble and strife, through feast and famine, and through war and peace. At times I cried as I brought many of your brothers and sisters home to the greatest spirit of all, God our Father. Rest assured, they were welcomed with open arms.

In 1969 I saw the last of my offspring walk from my embrace but I still live! Even as others decide my fate, I still live. If the brick and mortar that provided me with my body and you with comfort, trust, hope and love were to disappear from this earth, I will still live. I will live in the hearts, minds and spirits of all my sons and daughters and all of those that have walked my halls and remember me with love. I am forever, because you are forever. Our spirits will live together until the end of time.

Hail Alma Mater, we rise in song to thee, Thy sons and thy daughters we are proud to be. Strong are the ties that bind our hearts to Turtle Creek High; We'll stand and sign her praise's to the sky.
