- Location. Located in historic downtown Charleston, S.C., the Wentworth Mansion sits in a neighborhood of antebellum homes located one-half mile from Charleston City Market. The inn is within one mile of several historic sites, including the Confederate Museum, The Powder Magazine and The Old Exchange.
- Features. Originally built between 1885-87 as a private residence for Francis Silas Rodgers, a wealthy cotton merchant, the four-story inn reflects America's post-Civil War prosperity. Using European designs, craftsmen created hand-carved marble fireplaces, Tiffany stained glass windows, pressed tin ceilings with crystal chandeliers and ornate hardwood finishes. Restored to its near-original state in 1999 while installing modern amenities, the inn serves complimentary morning coffee in the parlor and complimentary European-style breakfasts in the sunroom. Complimentary appetizers and wine are available afternoons in the Harleston Lounge. Rodgers Library offers guests a quiet place for reading and reflection, and the cupola provides a 360-degree view of the city. Behind the inn, where the mansion's gardens and original carriage house are located, the Circa 1886 Restaurant offers seasonal dishes made from locally grown produce and fresh seafood, including spicy grilled shrimp served over fried green tomatoes, and sweet potato butterscotch soufflé served with blackstrap molasses creme and vanilla bean marshmallows. The Spa at Wentworth Mansion, located in the mansion's original stables, offers a variety of body treatments, including anti-aging facials and hot stone massages.
- Guestrooms. The Wentworth Mansion contains 21 guestrooms featuring original woodworking, antique furnishings, sitting areas and sleigh beds. Most guestrooms provide working gas fireplaces. All accommodations have private bathrooms equipped with bathrobes, two-person jetted tubs and walk-in showers. Other amenities include cable television, CD players and in-room safes. Wireless Internet access is complimentary.
- Expert Tip. Guestrooms and staff at the Wentworth Mansion earned a perfect score in the 2007 Condé Nast Traveler Gold List of the world's best places to stay. The publication praised the inn for its architecture, the quality of breakfast entrees available and the highest degree of Southern hospitality provided by its staff.
